If you want to use mods that require release 7609 you should use Sevenfm's experimental exe. If you want to try the "real" latest version you should look here. That's only the latest stable which is very old. With "latest version + patch" you probably mean the official release 7609. The other steps however are required as they set the game to run in 16 bit color depth and compatibility mode. Actually I'd advise not to use them because they cause a garbled air view on the map screen. In my opinion you don't really need the dll files from the archive. Please read the Readme file that is contained within. The JA2 1.13 installation has a docs folder with information on Windows 8/10 compatibility fixes.

I have been gaming for more than 20 years and this is the most impressed I've been since first taking the monorail to Black Mesa.Re: Running JA2 1.13 on Windows 10 If you are not sure you could try the demo or watch some 'Let's play' videos on youtube. Jagged Alliance 2 comes from a golden era before the "next-gen" console wars. Then things changed, publishers like EA started getting more involved with the creative process and commercial games started copying counter-strike and whatnot.

Looking back I realise that 1997-2002 saw the most innovative and ambitious games where developers were given a lot of cash and freedom to design games, and mod developers pioneered new types of games never seen before. 2003 and onward has been a dull line of WWII/modern shooters and tech demos masquerading as fleshed out games worth your money. A lot of games in the late 90's and early 00's had this passionate fire with fantastic settings and ambitious game play. A lot of passion went into designing and executing this game, I can tell. It is simply a ton of fun to play, it has lots of personality and intelligent humour and several layers of gameplay.

You need to make fairly realistic and intelligent decisions going into combat to make use of all that cover and killing off the enemies fast and economically. Sure, sometimes you can camp behind a building and the enemies will rush into your automatic fire one by one, sometimes they waste action points walking around doing nothing important, but they still put up tough resistence.

Being fairly used to Fallout 1 and 2, working an old turn-based 2D interface was not a big obstacle, and so I quickly learned how rich the tactical combat is in this game. Jagged Alliance 2 is probably one of the best games ever made. Back in 1998-1999 my life was dominated by Half-Life and other shooters rapidly becoming more sophisticated, but this is a true gem.

When I actually started playing the full game (1.12) I was blown away with the depth and production value that went into such an old game. This thread made me decide to give the demo a chance and it only took me 2 minutes to realise I must have this game.

I've also eyed it up on GOG for a long time, even wishlisted it but never comitted to buying it. I've actually known about it since it was released, but I never played it despite being curious about it. I want to thank Nimsky for providing the final bit of inspiration I needed to check this game out.
